Wellbeing concept for administrative offices

Curated by Dr. Giulio Ciccone

Introduction

At the request of a real estate developer and end user, a project was developed that was oriented toward wellness, comfort, and healthiness in working environments. The project, which covers an area of 1900 square meters, integrates various construction and design disciplines to create an optimal environment for end users.

Background and Objectives

The main goal of the project was to create work environments that improve employee productivity and creativity while reducing absenteeism. This goal stems from the need to provide work spaces that not only meet daily operational needs, but also promote a healthy and stimulating environment.

Implementation and Development

Achieving the set goals required the integration of advanced technologies and collaboration among different design areas, including heating/cooling, air treatment, lighting engineering, acoustics, and interior design. The adoption of a metal radiant ceiling system facilitated the integration of radiant heating and cooling systems, aeraulic systems for air and humidity treatment, advanced lighting solutions, and sound-absorbing materials to reduce noise pollution. These systems also provide the flexibility to adapt spaces to future needs, ensuring easy inspection of technical systems.

Results and Impact

The project achieved an excellent end result due to the holistic integration of the various disciplines involved. The cross-disciplinary approach taken not only achieved the desired goals, but also kept costs down compared to a less integrated approach. The new technologies implemented eliminated common problems such as cold drafts and noise sources, significantly improving environmental comfort. Thermal insulation built into the radiant ceilings also provided significant sound absorption, further contributing to occupant wellbeing. This project now serves as a benchmark for future similar initiatives, demonstrating the effectiveness of integrated, wellness-oriented design in workplaces.
